Snapchat For Higher Ed Marketing

The payoff of Snapchat can be hard to nail down. Simplicity? Assured engagement? Intimacy of instant connection? Current college students seem to have figured it out, but what about the institutions they attend?

Using Snapchat to promote on-campus events isn’t just smart, it’s easy—now more than ever—with Snapchat’s on-demand geofilters. Accepted Student Weekend? Orientation? Move-In Day? You name it. People are naturally inclined to share, so creating geofilters is a great way to encourage students to share their authentic experiences. Snapchat has even created campus stories where users within a certain range can add and view snaps on their respective campus’ story.

Some colleges are even using Snapchat to reach out to admitted students, extending the acceptance letter even further than the hashtag. Using the platform to break down that social barrier can make the process of finding and choosing a school to attend that much easier and less daunting than a pile of brochures.

Hand over the keys to a current student for a week or so. Prospective students will love the authentic feel of the content they create, and giving them a glimpse into the day-to-day student life at one of their top choices is a good way to secure your spot in their heart. And with the recent addition of Snapchat Memories, those glimpses will last longer.

It doesn’t just stop at student recruitment, though. Higher ed marketers can leverage Snapchat to promote on-campus events, athletic events, fundraisers, giveaways, and more.

From geofilters to campus stories, Snapchat offers a new medium to engage and connect with prospective students. Instead of an in-home mailer or brochure, why not send a 6-second snap welcoming them to the family? Or a geofilter to promote rivalry week? With Snapchat’s continuing growth & improvement, the possibilities for higher ed marketing are getting better and better.
