Julia’s affinity for words began in her high school’s library when she joined the yearbook staff. It grew into a passion while she worked as a communications strategist for the University of West Florida. At Up&Up, she bridges higher ed know-how and creative storytelling.
Julia collaborates with the team to uncover those meaningful narratives for universities and colleges. She writes copy and helps develop strategies across the board for clients—in brand platforms, marketing campaigns, and website redesigns.
When not taking notes and plotting in her planner at work, she explores Greenville with her husband, Andy, and their Boston Terrier dog-child, Henry. While she hails from a white-sand beach town, she chose to switch to the mountain life and has not looked back since.
Q&A with Julia Terwilliger
What makes you proud of yourself and others?
When someone puts their all in on whatever they do in life and reaps the rewards.
What is the favorite part of your job and the impact you make?
I like to dig into new topics and share their meaning in a simpler way for people to understand. Higher ed helps connect so many people to what they’ll do for the rest of their lives, and it’s a special feeling to have a hand in helping people see their potential.
What’s the best thing you’ve learned since starting your career?
It’s okay to make mistakes. Of course, you don’t want to fall back on that, but it’s really important to remember when you learn something for the first time. Trial and error is a teacher.
What’s your favorite hobby?
Long walks with my husband and dog or binge-watching a new show.
If you could do anything in this world, what would it be?
Be a part of something that makes a dent in history. I don’t know what that is yet, but I’ve got my life to figure it out.
